Know the warning signs

FDA advises caution with pet medicine websites that avoid prescription requirements, lack verifiable business or pharmacy details, or offer suspiciously low prices. An unexpected or different-looking medicine should be checked with the veterinarian and seller before use. A familiar logo on a marketplace does not establish the identity of the seller.

Compare the exact item

  • Country-specific product name and formulation.
  • Species and weight range, not just package colour.
  • Number of doses or units and the amount in each.
  • Expiry information where applicable, intact packaging, and readable instructions.
  • Seller identity, return process, and access to product support.

Make the cost comparison meaningful

A lower package price may contain fewer doses or a different product. Compare like for like only after a veterinarian or the label has established suitability. Avoid selecting a larger weight pack with the intention of splitting it. Keep shipping, returns, and the need for a valid prescription in mind.

Cross-border listings need extra scrutiny

A product sold in one country may not have the same authorization or label in another. Our product guide separates U.S. and Canadian destinations and does not infer Mexican authorization. Check local requirements and ask your veterinarian before replacing a prescribed product with an unfamiliar import.

What our buttons actually mean

“Search Amazon” and “Search Chewy” open retailer searches. They do not verify every search result, seller, price, or formulation. Manufacturer links explain claimed purpose; they are not independent tests. Any configured commission relationship must be disclosed alongside the shopping links. Use the label checklist before checkout.

Use the guidance for your location.

Product approval, labels, and clinical advice differ between countries. This educational guide is not an individual medical or veterinary assessment.
